Social Mixed Slowpitch

Back by popular demand, our social mixed slowpitch softball competition is here again! Get your teams together, whether it’s your family, friends, work colleagues or teammates from other sports, come out and get involved! Teams were raving about the last season and we look forward to starting the fun all over again. With super competitive kids on the same team as their never-thrown-a-ball-in-my-life mums, and close calls being decided by Paper, Scissors, Rock, the Gawler Rangers Slowpitch League is a guaranteed laugh.

The season will run from October through to March, with a break in the middle for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Some of the fun novelty rounds included this season are Halloween, Christmas and Australia Day, where teams can dress up and get involved in the festivities. There will be 14 minor rounds in total with two finals rounds, including the Grand Final on Wednesday 6th March.

Team entry is super cheap at $50 for a team of 10, equating to $5 per player, plus $2 per player per game throughout the season. Being a mixed competition we like to aim for an equal male – female ratio in the teams, and have an age limit of 13 for safety reasons. To play finals, players need to have participated in 5 or more games throughout the season.

Teams should bring their own gear – all you really need is to make sure your players have a glove, and you can get away with only having one bat. Helmets are not mandatory however we recommend them to be on the safe side. These can be supplied at the club. Match balls will be supplied and must be returned following the game.

Umpiring is based on a friendly and honest player-umpired system. Strikes are called by the catcher, and occur when the batter swings and misses, hits a foul ball, or the pitch lands on the home plate mat (a mat extended from the rear of home plate). Clear calls are clear, and close calls where an agreement can’t be reached are decided by whoever wins a game of Paper, Scissors, Rock between the players involved. The result of this ancient and sacred ritual is binding and the game moves on.

After the games the barbecue is running and the bar is open – what better way to spend your summer evenings than out at the ballpark with your favourite people?

To enter a team please download the Slowpitch Team Entry Form and return it to by Saturday 13th October. If you have any issues accessing the form please contact us.
